Frequently asked questions

Why handmade soap is better than factory made?

Factory made soaps are often made with chemical detergents, hardeners, and synthetic lathering agents. Some of these ingredients can be drying or irritating on the skin. Handmade soap created with oils, liquid, and lye. Once the lye and oils emulsify and combine, the saponification process begins. This process turns the lye and oil into soap. No lye remains in the final bar of soap. Handmade soap retains all the natural glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant that attracts moisture from the air to the skin. Some commercial soaps remove the glycerin from the bars and use it to make lotions and creams. Without glycerin soaps can leave the skin feeling dry.

Why handmade soap is more expensive than factory made soap?

Handmade soap is very time consuming. Machines make products faster and cheaper, and often use ingredients such as palm oil that can have an adverse effect on our environment. Making handmade soaps take time and care, and not as many products can be made. Every single step is scrutinized to make sure the product is perfect, taking even more time, but resulting in a quality product. Each bar of soap takes 4-6 weeks to cure before they can be sold. All of the processes involved are done by us. From designing, choosing ingredients, making the products, designing the packaging, posting, marketing, even the accounting. We put our time, care, energy, heart, and soul into every soap we sell. Ingredients used in our soaps are more expensive because they are natural. We only use high quality ingredients. We don't buy our ingredients in bulk so that they remain as fresh as possible. And finally, each soap is unique. Each soap is one of a kind.

Will my soap look exactly like in the photo?

No. We do our best to accurately photograph our soaps so that colors and design details are shown accurately. We hand-pour and hand-cut our soaps, there will be a slight variations, small air bubbles, and tiny imperfections but it does not effect the quality of the soap in the least. You may also witness "soda ash" which is a harmless powder like substance that forms when new soap meets air. We believe this lends to the handmade nature of the products. Each soap really is one of a kind.
